Our Maths & Science Solution in Slovakia

The Planet of Knowledge is the name of our Maths & Science Solution localised and adapted to the needs of Slovakian educational market by our partner – Agemsoft.

Edita Duchoňová, Grammar School V. B. Nedožerského, Prievidza:

  • "My experience shows that the greatest advantages of this comprehensive education system are in increasing the motivation and activity of pupils and students, in visualization and illustration of processes. Multimedia presentation with traditional study texts, animations, simulations, images, videos, pictures - with their utilization the students can learn a given topic better than in a traditional way, because it has more complex effect on their senses. Teaching with the Planet of Knowledge improves the relationship to the subject and to the teacher. Students don't have to write so much, the presentation of charts, their own work, is very important. Students can verify their knowledge in interactive exercises and logical games, they carry out activities for remembering. A lesson is attractive and entertaining for them and they have a close relationship to the IKT tools. Learning process is more vibrant, they receive immediate feedback on how they understand what they have learned. Students acquire a better understanding of the connection between the curriculum and life. The Planet of knowledge enables a teacher to use simple and intuitive preparation of a lesson. It contributes to the good feeling about teaching, to good atmosphere at lessons, to the development of teacher's personality when working with new educational technologies."

Martina Šestáková, Primary School with Kindergarten sv. Petra a Pavla, Belá nad Cirochou:

  • "The Planet of Knowledge gives us new possibilities for teaching mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and natural science. Preparing for a lesson is simpler. A teacher can use various animations, videos, illustrations, logic games, practice examples, which will enrich teaching. Learning is more illustrative, entertaining, and understandable for students. Through the digital content teachers support their personal development in working with new educational technologies. "

Eliška Reptová, Primary School, Brezová pod Bradlom:

  • "The Planet of Knowledge aroused great interest and enthusiasm not only in natural science teachers, but also in civics and ethics teachers, because there are suitable lessons for topics such as drugs, smoking, healthy lifestyles and environmental education, which is found in most subjects as a cross-sectional theme. Chemistry and physics teachers particularly praise virtual experiments, which save time, resources, can be repeated many times during one lesson, are safe and students can see the essence of a process they are studying, and not just the external effect. Children like it. I quote: "I like this program very much. One can learn a lot from it. Illustrative videos and pictures are the best. I like that I can use it also at home. "

Martina Dlholucká, Primary School R. Dilonga, Trstená:

  • "I'd like to encourage teachers and assure them, that work with IT and the digital content of the Planet of Knowledge is not difficult at all. The students will learn to work with the program and the interactive whiteboard very fast, it's very motivating for them and they will look forward to your lessons :-). It supports the activity of students - students want to cooperate, they want to go to the blackboard to write, their imagination as well as creativity develops - it encourages their desire for new knowledge, older students can eventually create presentations that you can use later. I think the main asset of portal Planet of Knowledge is that students perceive the teacher's interpretation by multiple senses - they can hear, see, they can draw. Their knowledge becomes more permanent this way."

One Maths teacher's experience of using the Slovak version of our Maths & Science solution

Why to Say YES to the Planet of Knowledge Project
by Mgr. Oľga Mériová

Stredná odborná škola obchodu a služieb, Komárno

* Planet of Knowledge is the name of our localized and adapted Maths &Science solution in Slovakia

I've taught mathematics at a secondary school of trade and services. Students' interest in this subject has been declining. My ambition is therefore to teach in more interesting, engaging and modern ways, also using information and communication technologies.

Digital curriculum "The Planet of Knowledge" won me over from the first moment. Finally a comprehensive, visual, interesting and well-processed material for natural science. I consider it to be an excellent teaching tool.

I familiarized with it the last school year. The number of natural science lessons has been decreasing, therefore the only option to get access was to sign up for a competition. Purchase of access for one school year would not be economical and we didn't have any sponsor.

Preparation for the first lesson was demanding. Gradually, as I was familiarizing myself with the content and was looking for material for a given topic, the Planet of Knowledge started to discourage me slightly. I spent too much time preparing for the first lesson. Some suitable images were in the section for elementary school II, others were in the section for secondary school. I didn't find exercises of similar difficulty and content in one lesson. I missed a portal that would enable their combination and simplified material searching and access for students.  However, my students found learning with the Planet of Knowledge very interesting. They were more active, attentive, disciplined and efficient. Students who regularly show disinterest in the subject were also attracted.

I've been teaching mathematics for more than a quarter of century. Experience regarding activity, attention and discipline of students has been very negative in recent years. Teaching with the Planet of Knowledge was less demanding for me. Students cooperated, solved exercises zealously, they learned the topic easier and better.  The hours I spent searching and supplementing material were fruitful.

The competition ended and sites supplemented by me were gone. Once more I had the opportunity to experience a modern and interactive tool, which is not affordable for schools.  I was disappointed.

Thanks to project Modernisation of the Educational Process, I gained access to the materials and could continue to use the Planet of Knowledge. I and my students were satisfied.

I was pleased with the Planet of Knowledge Project and I participated in it without hesitation. Portal Naučteviac.sk is what I missed the last school year. Finally I can choose material according to my requirements, I can combine it with my own files and presentations, which I've been creating and using for years. The big advantage is the possibility to insert links for material from the Internet. I don't have to download material from web sites and store it any more.

The step-by-step video teaching how to work with the portal enabled me to prepare a lesson in much shorter time. After completing training in fantastic training centre EDULAB (a class of future) I have improved in the creation of presentations and learned to easily manage the preparation of tasks or exercises for students.

Through the portal Naučteviac.sk I can give more interesting tasks and enjoyable exercises as well as material to study or supplementary topics to students. Students who didn't pay attention to their homework do their homework as well. Students absent from school appreciate the opportunity to study topics on their own from available material.
I provide training on working with portals Naučteviac.sk and Naučsaviac.sk to colleagues from our school. They praised the tool.  They were thrilled by the variety and amount of interactive material in the Planet of Knowledge.

We agreed that the Planet of Knowledge Project offers the chance to change traditional school into modern school. It allows full use of modern information and communication technology and modern teaching methods. It also allows the development of all cognitive functions.  With the Planet of Knowledge, teachers can easily bring diversity, experiential learning, increased desire for cognition, better individual access as well as e-learning into the teaching process.

It would be wrong not to support the project and bring it to a successful conclusion, so all schools can have access to a unique tool.
